Independent Learning

Independent learning refers to any task or assignment a student completes in addition to timetabled lessons. This could be completed in a number of places including at home or in the library at lunchtimes and afterschool.

Research by the Education Endowment Fund has found that students who regularly complete Independent Learning can make five months additional progress in comparison to those who do not. They are therefore considerably more likely to be successful in their GCSE examinations if they are motivated and extending their learning time through Independent Study.

Knowledge Organisers

For KS3 we use Knowledge Organisers to help our students achieve. Knowledge Organisers improve student confidence by helping them understand how to learn and revise.

Knowledge Organisers help to develop a culture of learning and by improving attitudes to learning, will help your child reach their potential in school and beyond.

Knowledge organisers for KS4 will depend on the subject being studied, and individual departments will advise which ones students should purchase. These may be tailored to either higher or foundation tiers, so it is important to ensure the correct version is chosen. Care should also be taken to select organisers that match the appropriate exam board. These resources are essential for supporting effective independent revision.
