Education with Character

At Sale High School we understand that there is more to a good education than just academic success. Our school aims to develop character, compassion, and service. Young people are expected to contribute to their school and to society; to try things which they think they cannot do; to persist in the face of difficulty; to become resilient in overcoming obstacles; to manage themselves; to work independently on things which challenge them; to work with others and in teams; to be courageous and caring; to lead. 

We want young people to look back on a joyful schooling which has inspired and challenged them, given them wide opportunity and prepared them for the ups and downs of life. We are therefore committed to providing all our students with a broad and balanced curriculum as well as cultural and social experiences that broaden horizons and support the development of character. 

We pride ourselves on the rich and varied extra-curricular opportunities that our children have at SHS. We have an amazing range of clubs that happen before, during and after school. 

Clubs change on a half termly basis and are advertised to the children during form time and through lessons.

Our school leadership team, currently made up of Year 11 students, plays an important role in creating a strong sense of community and belonging across the whole school. In Year 10, students are given the opportunity to apply for leadership positions through a written application and interview process.

As aspirational representatives, they lead with respect and resilience, acting as positive role models for younger students. They promote achievement, organise fundraising initiatives, and take pride in giving back to the wider community. A key part of their role is supporting the wellbeing of younger students, helping them to feel safe, confident, and included.

Through their work, the team helps to create a supportive and respectful school environment where every student feels valued.

The SALE Award is designed to help you grow into a confident, well-rounded individual, ready for life beyond school. Through a range of meaningful experiences – both in and out of the classroom - you’ll develop the skills, attitudes, and values that define what it means to be a
Sale Student.

The Awards are divided into four categories:

How It Works

1. Complete challenges and collect simple evidence (like a photo)
2. Keep a physical or online portfolio of evidence
3. Complete 5 challenges in each of the SALE award categories (20 in total) to be awarded the SALE award badge and be recognised in special award assemblies.
4. Once you have completed the SALE award move onto the completing the bronze, silver, gold and platinum awards.

We believe this is a really exciting opportunity for your child to be involved in and great enrichment to support college and career applications later on in life. Please encourage your child to get involved and have a talk to them about which activities they are going to try first.

Welcome to the Sale Scholars Programme, an initiative designed to challenge, inspire, and support our most aspirational students from Years 7–11. Focused on fostering academic excellence, leadership, and ambition, the programme provides enriching opportunities both within and beyond the classroom.

At its core are subject-specific masterclasses, leadership roles, competitions, and collaborations with institutions like Sale Grammar School, Loreto College, and outreach programmes. These experiences deepen knowledge, ignite a passion for learning, and prepare students for future pathways.
