Dear Parent / Carer

We welcomed our students back to school this month after the half term break. I was delighted to see so many students working in school during half term in Maths and Science workshops in preparation for their examinations.

Our Young Enterprise students are making themselves known in school and beyond. They managed a successful cake sale last half term to ‘kick start’ their venture. The Young Enterprise programme runs for a full year. Our 15 students will maintain their profile through our internal communications such as the Student Bulletin as well as our website and Facebook facility. Their main aim is to ensure they develop their enterprise skills and are currently working on a marketing strategy. We wish them well.

We have a busy calendar this half term, available on the school website, and look forward to meeting year 10 parents at our Curriculum Evening 15 November 2012 and year 8 parents at the Consultation Evening on 6 December 2012. We have our Presentation Evening for last year’s leavers on 22 November 2012 and are planning the Carol Concert and our annual Senior Citizen’s Christmas party. We will keep you informed of the details.

I referred to our Curriculum Evening for year 10 parents. You can be a key player in your child’s achievements and ensure their success. We will be inviting year 10 parents to attend an event, which will provide information on the core subjects at KS4, English, Maths, Science and you can take away a curriculum booklet packed with information, examination dates and useful tips. I hope you can join us on 15 November.

This year we plan to introduce a Parent Bulletin each fortnight that will help to keep parents informed of the details of school events, examination dates and coursework deadlines. The first edition should be with you on Friday 23 November and then on 7 December 2012. As it is a trial, we would appreciate your feedback on how successful you think it is and any information we might consider including. We realise that communication is important and yet not everyone is accessing parent-mail or using our website and Facebook facilities. We also appreciate that some of our students often ‘forget’ to keep parents informed.

As the cold weather sets in, I would like to remind parents to be aware of the school uniform and that outdoor coats need to be dark in colour, scarves also. The students were very smart on their return and we appreciate your support in ensuring high standards.

Yours sincerely,

L. Nicholls
