Admissions to Year 7

Sale High School is an 11-16 school serving the local and wider community. We welcome all pupils, regardless of their background and ability, challenging them to achieve their full potential.

Applications for admission into Year 7 are coordinated by Trafford Local Authority (LA). Sale High School will admit students to Year 7 up to the admission number. The Published Admission Number for September 2017 is 198. 




The process 

The LEA (Local Education Authority) will provide application forms to parents and will inform you of the closing date, usually late October. Please note Sale High School does not require any supplementary forms to be submitted with your application.)

It is important that you put Sale High School as your first choice to ensure that you secure a place. If you live outside Trafford LA, you are still entitled to apply for a place at Sale High School using the application form provided by your present LA. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications by the local authority, on behalf of the schools governing body in March. 


Admissions Criteria 

Where applications for admission exceed the number of places available, the following criteria will be applied by the LA in the order set out below to determine how places at Sale High School are awarded:

All children whose statement of Special Education Needs (SEN) or Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan names the school must attend.

“Looked after children”: children in the care of Trafford MBC – residing in M33,WA14 & WA15 areas.

Siblings: Children who have brothers or sisters currently enrolled at the School at the time of admission who are living at the same address as part of the same family unit. (Siblings are defined as half/step/foster brother or sisters or any other children living at the same address.)

Distance from School: The priority catchment for Sale High School includes post code areas, M33,WA14 and WA15.If demand exceeds the admission number, the rank order will be determined by the proximity of the child’s home to school.

Unsuccessful Applications 

Unsuccessful applicants may ask to be placed on a waiting list and considered for any places that may arise in the future. These places will be awarded in accordance with the criteria listed above. This waiting list will be maintained to the end of the first term of the school year.
